Bedouin Source is an organization dedicated to the preservation of a group of horses which can be traced in every line to the horse breeding tribes of the Arabian Peninsula. We are a non-profit, charitable status organization who's goal is to educate the public, encourage preservation of qualifying bloodlines, and research the genetic contribution from specific bloodlines and individuals. Bedouin Source is a new organization and has not done much "advertising" either of our goals or our existence.
Membership in Bedouin Source is based on dedication to the concept and support of the Bedouin Source effort. Most of our current members are people who have horses which would be BLUE STAR eligible as direct, exclusive descendants of the horses listed as BLUE STAR in the Blue Arabian Horse Catalog. However, Bedouin Source supports and encourages the preservation of any breeding group which can be traced in all lines to the Bedouin Horse Breeding Tribes of the Saudi Peninsula. Included would be horses which are classified as DAVENPORTS, specifically, but not exclusively those which would be listed as "either BLUE STAR or Blue List" eligible in the BAHC, along with those horses which would be Blue List eligible in the BAHC, regardless of individual breeding groups.
Bedouin Source also supports the preservation efforts for those horses which were sub-listed in the BAHC, although not all of those horses might be regarded as Bedouin Source, based on other possible input sources to their pedigrees. There were many different reasons why a horse might have been "sub-listed" in the BAHC, which have nothing to do with quality or ability of the individual horses descended from those groups. It is the belief of Bedouin Source that those horses exhibit type and qualities from the original source Bedouin Arabian, and that the preservation of their input to the modern day horses should be encouraged. To that end, Bedouin Source will continue to "recognize" them as groups of special interest, and provide services to preservation breeders of those groups.
New research has indicated that there are many differing beliefs concerning breeding methods used by the Bedouins. There have been conflicting stories regarding legendary "contamination" of different strains or families originating with the Bedu tribes of the desert. Bedouin Source believes that all breeders have the right to pursue PRESERVATION of their own groups as they perceive it, from self-education about their own groups. Bedouin Source will not argue the "correctness" of one theory over another, believing that all of the groups deserve preservation equally, regardless of perceived history. Neither will Bedouin Source take a stand that any one group is more "pure" than another, although individual breeders may do so at their own option.
